The WCS Collarum is designed to capture canines, including the red fox, by throwing a cable loop over their head and around their neck. It is not a snare. The end of the capture loop is anchored in the ground and the canine is held like a dog on a chain. It is unique in a number of ways.

It is canine-specific because of the trigger mechanism, which requires a pull action rather than the push/depress mechanism usually employed by traps. This virtually eliminates catching animals other than canines. The English approved version features a Relaxalock cable and adjustable stop to ensure a 'friendly' capture and comply with UK legislation. The WCS Collarum has been added to the list of approved spring traps for England and application is being made for it's inclusion in the Scottish, Welsh and Irish equivalents.
This trap is much safer to utilize in areas where people, pets and other domestic animals may come in contact with it. An unknowing human springing the Collarum is at little risk. Animals other than canines are very unlikely to be caught in this device even if the spring it, and captured dogs can be released with no harm done. Unlike fox cage-traps which are large, bulky and difficult to conceal the Collarum is light, compact and easy to hide. This gives it distinct advantages for users in high visibility areas. The Collarum has proven its effectiveness in capturing animals that won't approach a cage trap or tolerate the close approach of humans.
The Collarum does not need to be set on a 'run', significantly reducing the risk of catching 'non-targets'. For this reason it can be used in urban areas or around buildings where there are no 'runs' suitable for setting snares.
The Collarum is a precision mechanism, manufactured primarily in stainless steel offering a long service life in exposed conditions. Each unit comprises the basic unit, two restraints, written instructions and an instructional dvd. Spare parts, including additional restraints, are available.
The restraint is manufactured from heavy duty material specifically to avoid biting into the captured targets neck and causing unnecessary injury or stress.
This device provides an additional method to control the fox, it does not replace other legal methods, all of which have their own place in fox control.
